Establishment of the College: The founder of the College Chaudhary Babu Mahadeo Prasad was a great visionary, philanthropist and patriot, he firmly believed that education is essential for personal enlightenment and political freedom. He has donated Rs One lakh in 1914 for the esatblishment of a higer education institute of eminence. One of the significant provisions of this ‘Will’ was that fifty percent of the income generated from his assets will be spent on education of the poor. From Rs. 1 lakh so provided in the ‘Will’, the CMP Degree College was established in the year 1950 and is under the governance of Kayastha Pathshala which is Asia’s biggest Society.
Journey of CMP Degree College: The college started with B.Sc. program in 1950 in the building of K.P. Intermediate College. In 1953 the college was shifted to its present location at that time known as Agra Jamindar Association’s Building housed at Mahatma Gandhi Marg, George Town, Allahabad.
It became a full-fledged Degree College with both Arts and Science faculties in 1955. The first Principal of the College was Sri Babu Ram Saxena, who was succeeded by Sri Madhav Prasad, Dr. D.R. Bhattacharya, an Ex Vice-chancellor of Allahabad University, Sri J.Sen, Dr. Satya Prakash Srivastava and Sri R.K. Sur. The year 1957 saw the rise of a new era in the history of development of C.M.P. Degree College, when Sri J.P. Srivastava took over the reins as Principal from previous torch bearers noted above. At that time the institution was struggling hard to find its feet in the face of paucity of resources and lack of desired support. In that very year, with the supported fund of the U.P. Government and Pandit Kamalapati Tripathi, the then Education Minister, laid the foundation stone of the College hostel. The first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru inaugurated the college hostel in 1957 known as Sampoornand Hostel. In the same year, the old Zamindar Association Hall was modified to locate the college library and reading hall situated in the surrounding of greeneries and overlooking the playground. At present apart from the main campus the college also has separate campus for Commerce and Law faculty located at Kamla Nehru Road.
In 1963-64 separate arrangements were made for girl students. In 1976, girls, education was shifted to a new building at 4, Kamla Nehru Road. The B.Sc. (Bio.) classes for girls along with full-fledged members, and laboratories started in 1982. Unfortunately due to continuous retirement of teaching and non-teaching staff and with no new appointment of staff from University of Allahabad the girl students were shifted to the Main Wing of the College in 2010.
To cope with the expansion in science education and the rush of students, separate building for Botany and Zoology departments having well planned laboratories, lecture halls, seminar rooms and Museum came up in the year 1976 and the Chemistry department was expanded further.
The structural development of the college did not take rest for a while. The foundation stone of a commodious Auditorium with a seating capacity for 1500 persons was laid by Munshi Harnandan Prasad, the then President of Kayasth Pathshala. The Auditorium known as Dr Pyarelal Auditorium after an upgradation in 2021 wears a grand theatrical appearance profusely adding to the glory of the functions held therein.
It was in 1972 that the Law Faculty was added to the folds of the College family. Initially run in the old Zamindar Association building in the morning, the faculty has finally shifted into a separate independent campus at 4, Kamla Nehru Road since January 1990. The Faculty of Commerce was started in 1976 in the main campus but recently to cope up with the growing number of students and research it has been shifted to a separate campus at 4 Kamla Nehru Road. Thus, the College now imparts undergraduate teaching in four faculties namely Arts, Science, Commerce and Law catering to the needs of approximately 15000 students.
