NOTICE
Department of Psychology, C.M.P. Degree College, University of Allahabad, is organizing an online lecture series on the theme “ Psychological Issues during COVID”. COVID-19 has severely affected all spheres of human life. We are facing numerous psychological problems, prominent ones being distress, trauma and other mental health problems. This lecture will focus on traumatic stress reactions during the pandemic which is likely to develop into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Prolonged Grief Disorder. The current pandemic situation has forced us to restricted hospital visits, rendering closure and conversations cumbersome. Even mourning rituals that follow death have been reversed, with funerals being attended by a few due to social distancing norms. There is thus an urgent need to know effective coping mechanisms to deal with the loss of a loved one. The present talk focuses on the basics of trauma and grief and how these terms present different manifestations in pandemic times. Psychological ways to cope with trauma and grief during the pandemic and what we as psychologists need to do to cope with vicarious or secondary trauma and grief will also be discussed.
