A LECTURE WAS ORGANIZED BY DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

A lecture on “Epidemiology, Detection, Treatment, Transmission and Comparative Genomics of SARS-CoV-2 and Balancing Personal and Professional Life during Lockdown” was organized by the Department of Zoology, CMP College, under the aegis of DBT Star College Scheme on 20th November 2020 from 11 AM to 12 PM. The lecture was delivered by eminent microbiologist Prof. Rup Lal, NASI Senior Scientist Platinum Jubilee Fellow, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi. The lecture was held under the chairpersonship of Dr. Vandana Mathur, coordinated by Dr. Charu Tripathi and organized by Dr. Hemlata Pant and Dr. Jyoti Verma. Dr. Vinita Jaiswal, Convenor of the Department, formally welcomed the speaker and all participants. Dr. Vandana Mathur provided a brief bio-sketch of Prof. Rup Lal. Prof. Lal started his lecture by discussing the origin of the virus, its structure and mode of infection. Further, he spoke about the genomics of SARS-CoV-2 virus and the status of vaccine development. Prof. Lal stressed on the importance of spreading awareness pertaining to microbiology, virology and immunity among the general population. He concluded by highlighting the role of a healthy diet, exercise and maintaining a motivated and positive attitude during the pandemic for boosting natural immunity and staying safe from the virus. The vote of thanks was offered by Dr. Uma Rani Agarwal, Department Coordinator, Star College Scheme. The lecture was attended by 84 students and all faculty members of the Zoology Department.
