The Department of Chemistry was established in 1950 with an objective of providing quality education in the conventional areas of Science and growing into a center for teaching and research with an aim to acquire prominent position in the academic map of India. The Department offers both UG (B.Sc. Bio and B.Sc. Math’s with 1100 seats at entrance level) and PG (75 seats at entrance level) advanced courses in Chemical Sciences. There are three major specializations offered in M. Sc. such as Physical, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry. The Department is also offering a Ph.D. programme in different areas in Chemistry having 55 research scholars with two junior research fellows. The students are monitored and evaluated by regular seminars, assignments, mid and end-semester examinations.

The Department already has nineteen highly qualified regular faculties with doctoral degree [Associate Professor (07) and Assistant Professor (12)] out of which one also has D.Sc. Degree, and we have one post-doctoral fellow. The thrust area of research are going on in department are Photophysical and therapeutic research, Structural and Supramolecular chemistry, Research on Gangas, Green technology, Chemical kinetic, Co-ordination polymer chemistry, Synthetic chemistry, Natural products, Medicinal chemistry, Organometallic synthesis, Cement chemistry, Nanotechnology, Ecological foot prints etc. Department of chemistry have five major research project and also sponsored by DBT.

Department of Chemistry has launched water literacy course for students appearing in under graduate to create awareness about water pollution, water conservation, water born diseases, rain water harvesting, purification of water, chemical and physical properties of water and water testing such as BOD and COD.

The department of chemistry has two B.Sc. laboratories with capacity of 60 students each and three M.Sc. laboratories (Inorganic, Organic and Physical chemistry) and nine research laboratories, possessing necessary chemicals, reagents, glassware, lab wares and basic instruments such as UV- Vis Spectrophotometer, IR- spectrometer, Refractometer,  UV Fluorescence Analysis, Vacuum Rotary Evaporator, Magnetic Stirrer, Hot Air Oven, Glass Distillation Unit, UV Cabinet, Water Analyzer, Digital Melting Point Apparatus and Electronic Weighing Machine for performing experiments.

The Department of Chemistry has its own departmental library having 100 books in addition this library we have another R.K. Memorial library for under privileged students. R.K. Memorial library was established by the donation of books from faculty members.

A registered chemical society CSCMPC (REGD. No. 3446/AL-32535) was established by the department of chemistry C.M.P. College in 2012. The objective of society is to developed academic environment, interdisciplinary area of innovative research and prepares students for training in the frontier areas of national priorities. It also conducted national/international lecture/ seminar/symposium and workshop etc.

Department of chemistry initiated a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Chaudhary Mahadeo Prasad Degree College, a constituent PG College of University of Allahabad, Central University governed by UGC under 12 (A), located at M.G. Marg, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh-211002, India and Vigyan Parishad, Maharshi Dayanand Marg, Prayagraj- 211002, India, located in front of Chandra Shekhar Azad Park, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh-211002, India. Both the institutions have an understanding to jointly organise seminars, workshops, conferences, launching book etc. The College will provide the resource persons and students to Vigyan Parishad for propagation of Science in Hindi language. The Vigyan Parishad may assist research students and faculty of the College in buildup of writing skill of scientific articles in hindi language.

Department of chemistry publishes a yearly bulletin CHEM-WORLD since 2012 and is keep on coming out in volume after volume. The aim of which is to know chemistry to learn chemistry, to do chemistry and to write chemistry i.e. to live in a live environment of chemistry and search for chemistry of life processes from inorganic to organic, biotic to abiotic world, to living and non living creation of God controlled by the laws of Physics and  Chemistry. CHEM-WORLD include current topic on science and different activities organized by the Department e.g. seminars, workshops, conferences, poster, essay, quiz, model competition etc.

Faculty members of Chemistry Department have published approx 308 research papers and book chapter in the national/international peer review journal as well as 08 edited books in last five years.

Out reach programs: Faculty members of the department of chemistry are actively involved in the social responsibility of the society to play a role in creating capacity in community work and social problem. The faculty members contribute to sustainable development as started with plantation of wide variety of plant in the department and outside with boundary wall of college. They regularly distribute sampling of medicinal plant to common people. Department distributes cloths carry bags to replace polythene bags to save environment.

Our faculty members with students (in every two weeks) visit to Ravindranath Gaur Anand Vriddhashram, Prayagraj and spent quality time with older adults and trying to fulfill basic needs of old age people while helping with money, cloths and food stuck. This vriddhashram take care of old age people who are destitute, lonely and helpless people who either do not help anybody in family to care for them or not treated well, insulted and humiliated by their family. It is only one kilometer from college premises. Department provide drinking water facility “Paushala”.
