Department of Urdu in Choudhry Mahadeo Prasad Degree College i.e CMP Degree College, a constituent college of Allahabad University ,had been established in the year 1974. At that time this college was under the governance of Uttar Pradesh Higher Education. UP. After the year 2005 the status of Allahabad University has been changed and governance was taken under Central Government. This college has so many Departments, in which Department Of Urdu has also a significant position.

In this Department many reputed and highly qualified faculty members served their educational duties to enable the students to achieve the goals of career and life. Nowadays there are two faculty members, one Associate Professor and another Assistant Professor. The students of UG are being taught from beginning while PG classes have also been started since 2018. The Department has separate Teaching Room and Teachers Room. The number of students is sufficient. There are infrastructural facilities like Departmental Library with a good number of books, Internet facilities for Faculty members and time to time for students. Students’ enrichment programmes are held like special lectures with external experts, Bait baazi, Essay Competitions, special topics discussions etc.

Teaching methods are adopted to improve students learning through lectures, teaching on White Board, Question and answer system and Memory Test, also through assignment writings and other tests. The Faculty members are laborious in their duties so they spare time to brainwash the students for their career developments and achievements and also provide the materials of study and they are told to get matters through Pdf files. There are so many students who been have successful in career achievements. Some students of this Department are settled in Educational institutions. Some are sports persons and some are busy for career development. Some have gone to abroad for services .In this Department the teachers and students relationship are on best level. The students come from all caste and community with good background. The Faculty members are attentive to teach the subjects related to Urdu Language, Literature and Linguistics. They also furnish the students for curricular activities time to time in the Department.

Department of Urdu insists and approaches this philosophy with seriously. In this regard a Diploma Course “Certificate Course in Urdu” for learning Urdu language through Hindi has been started in the Department of Urdu since 2022-23.
