The Department of Education is a pioneer and prominent department of CMP College, University of Allahabad. The department of Education under the Faculty of Arts was established in 1955 with the introduction as a subject in undergraduate (B.A.) programme. The undergraduate Programme in Education was started under the supervision of Dr. Kedar Nath Srivastava, who was the first head of this department as well. Dr. Madan Mohan Srivastava, Dr. Ripu Daman Lal Srivastava, Smt. Malti Sarasvat and Smt. Munnavar Sultana were the eminent faculty members who served the department in starting phase. In addition, to meet the needs of quality teacher educators and scholars in the field of Education, the M.A. programme was started in 2016 and the Ph.D. Programme in 2019.

The department has highly skilled and well-qualified faculty members with varied academic backgrounds and experience to provide the students with a world-class learning experience, i.e. Dr. Malti Saraswat is a renowned author of 'Educational Psychology' book and Dr. Madan Mohan Srivastava wrote the book on 'Philosophy of Education'.

The department has a resourceful Educational Technology Lab to meet all kinds of demands of digitalized teaching learning process. The department has more than 50 Psychological Tests which are very useful to learn about Psychological testing and its administration at UG, PG and Ph.D. level. In addition to these infrastructural facilities, the department has several policy documents, books, reports of research, academic studies, field surveys, workshops, reports, educational data, teachers' records, theses, dissertations, journals, documentaries in the departmental library and SPSS software is an important asset of the department.

The department provides the educational, vocational and personal guidance services to the learners at all the levels under Guidance and Counselling Cell. Departmental Alumni Cell keeps the records of alumni of the department and arrange meeting to trace the achievements of the alumni. Arrange interactive sessions among alumni and current students to share the experiences and being a motivator for the present students. Grievance and Redressal Cell work to address the problems of the students and research scholars facing by them in the college. In continuation of these efforts, with the help of quality initiatives such as academic programmes, comprehensive research, field studies, creative ventures, and other educational activities, the department aspires to grow with quality education as well as research and to set high standard benchmarks at the regional, national & international levels through committed, sincere and highly potential faculty members and dynamic academic leadership.
